Born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Jeremiah Miller had a strong desire to paint early in his life. He attended the Ringling School of Art, and later the University of North Carolina. For the past twenty years, Miller has been a painter of landscapes. From the mountain scenes of his home state of North Carolina to the swamp scenes of his adopted state of South Carolina, Miller has created his own tradition of landscape painting. While his paintings may begin from sketches and photographs of a particular place, Miller allows necessity to decide where reality needs to be sacrificed in exchange for his overall creation. He often works with a limited palette to heighten a landscape’s expressiveness, to fill the image with vitality and growth, and to draw the viewer into his world of nature.
