Chevis Clark was born in Charleston, South Carolina, in 1922. After serving in World War II he went on to graduate from the Atlanta School of Art in 1950. Clark was a designer and illustrator for the US Navy from 1958 until 1973. He participated in the Navy Combat Art Program in 1971; his painting Replenishment at Sea was chosen for reproduction and the original is now a part of the Navy Combat Art Collection in Washington D.C. Today, Clark’s work is in collections throughout South Carolina, including the Anderson County Museum, Beaufort Art Museum, Charleston Museum, College of Charleston, Florence County Museum, Francis Marion College, and the State Museum.
